This Little Bit O’ Turquoise Wire Wrap Pendant is very unique and a one of a kind. The lovely oval shape is tenderly caressed by a delicate weave of sparkly sterling silver wire which is intended to show off the stone, rather than the wire weave that supports it.

 

This is a seriously pretty and engaging stone. You’ll find the chocolate brownish aggregate with flecks of “gold” with just a wee bit o’ turquoise unique and captivating.  The gold-yellow colors bubbling up through the chocolate are what happens when turquoise has a little too much zinc in its diet.

 

In most cases, the host rock of any gemstone (called the matrix) is excluded in jewelry making. In this stone however, the matrix is the predominate stone, which makes the small amount of turquoise the focal point. After you notice the turquoise, your eye moves to the yellow tones which seem to bubble up through the matrix, and then the lovely chocolate color encompassing and supporting the whole. It is a more interesting piece than if the entire stone was turquoise. It arouses your curiosity, draws the eye in and makes you want to examine it more closely.

 

Turquoise has been treasured as a gemstone for thousands of years by the ancient people of Africa, Asia, South America and North America. They independently made turquoise one of their preferred materials for producing gemstones, inlay, and small sculptures.

 

Chemically, turquoise is a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminum. Departure from the preferred “robin’s egg blue” color is caused by small amounts of iron or zinc substituting for copper in the turquoise structure. Nature makes blue turquoise when an abundance of copper is present in the rock but iron has a very small presence. This stone likely came from the Bisbee mine in Arizona, as most of the turquoise that it produces tends to have the more desirable bright blue color and chocolate brown inclusions.

 

Turquoise is a stone of protection. Additionally, it is a calming stone that can induce internal serenity and lift depleted spirits. It is known for its tranquil energy and enduring love.
